Network connectivity requirements

Understand what your device needs to connect to the internet securely and reliably.

Updated yesterday

Internet Connection Options

We recommend using a wired Ethernet connection for the most stable and reliable performance.

Wi-Fi is also supported, but its performance may vary depending on your local environment.

  • Minimum internet speed: 3 Mbps upload and download per device.

IP and DNS Settings

Your device is pre-configured to use DHCP. It will automatically receive IP and DNS settings from your network's router.

If your network requires static IP or DNS settings, you can configure these using the built-in Network Configuration Tool.

Firewall Requirements

To ensure uninterrupted operation and remote support, please allow the following connections through your firewall:

Essential Operation

Allow all outbound TCP traffic on port 443 (HTTPS) to the following destinations:

  • *.reshapebiotech.com

  • ris-plate-images.s3.amazonaws.com

  • reshape-fw-updates.s3.amazonaws.com

OS Updates

Allow all outbound TCP traffic on port 443 (HTTPS) to the following destinations:

  • archive.raspberrypi.com

  • deb.debian.org

  • download.docker.com

Remote Troubleshooting

Allow all outbound TCP traffic on port 443 (HTTPS) to *.tailscale.com

UDP from local port 41641 to any remote address

Enables direct secure connections via WireGuard.

UDP to port 3478 on any remote address

Used for STUN protocol (detects public IP and port when behind NAT).

Network Isolation (Optional)

We recommend isolating the device on its own VLAN or using port isolation if preferred.

  • The device does not require access to internal network resources.

  • TLS/HTTPS interception is not supported.

Custom Configuration

Use the Network Configuration Tool to:

  • Set up Wi-Fi SSID and password

  • Configure EAP enterprise authentication

  • Assign static IP and DNS settings

We are not able to install custom software on devices.

Additional Technical Information

  • Image Storage: Images are securely uploaded to Amazon S3, accessible only by authorized users.

  • Network Outages: The device retries image uploads for up to 1 hour during outages. Unsent images after this period are discarded.

  • Operating System: Debian-based Linux.

  • Automatic Updates: Security patches are applied regularly.

  • Ethernet: Direct port to the device.

  • Power Outages: The device supports Auto Resume, continuing imaging from the current job time once power is restored β€” no restart required.

    • Images scheduled during the outage will not be captured.
