Assigning well & plate properties

Learn how to provide metadata about organisms, media, treatments, samples and controls to your wells

Updated today

You'll get more out of Reshape when you assign the right metadata to your wells and plates: analysis will grow to be more precise over time and you can leverage aggregated insights like the ones presented in the organism library.

What are well & plate properties?

Well and plate properties store information about the well that is relevant to the analysis of your well. Reshape keeps track of the following properties:

  • Sample ID

  • Control type

  • Organism

  • Media

  • Treatment

  • Notes

Three ways to get well properties into Reshape

  1. Assign properties on an individual well or plate

  2. Assign properties for the entire job

  3. Assign properties upon creating a plate through the Reshape API

We'll cover the first two cases in this article. To learn how to assign properties through the Reshape API, go here.

Assign properties on an individual well or plate

When you're looking at a plate or well, navigate to the "Details" tab to enter properties.

Assign properties for the entire job

When you're looking at a job, find the "Add properties" button in the sidepanel to enter the tray designer.

You'll now enter a view where you can assign all the different properties to wells or plates. You can drag to select plates, or click them individually. Once you've made a selection, you can apply properties to that selection in the sidebar.

A few handy tips:

  • Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) to select multiple wells or plates by clicking on them

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + A to select all wells or plates in the view

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + C to copy the properties of a plate or a selection of wells/plates

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + V to paste those same properties elsewhere

  • You can deselect wells or plates by clicking outside of the tray view or by clicking the deselect button in the bottom toolbar

Note: the tray view is not yet available for Omnitrays.
