Experiments Overview

This guide covers creating an experiment and defining parameters

Experiments connect your conditions to your results. Parameters defined upfront stay linked throughout every stage of the experiment's lifecycle — plate setup, imaging, analysis — so you can immediately see how conditions influence outcomes without manual data merging.

Create a new experiment

In the left-hand sidebar, click Experiments, then + New experiment in the top-right corner.

Fill in the following:

  • Experiment name (required). Give it a clear, descriptive name.

  • Description. Capture your objective and hypothesis. Fill this in before anything else.

  • Analysis. Select the analysis type(s) that will run on your images (e.g. Growth Rate, Total Viable Count).

  • Tags. Optional. Useful for filtering later.

Click Create experiment.


Define your experimental parameters

You land on the Overview tab. This is where you define the conditions that will be linked to every plate, well, and result.

Work through each parameter group:

  • Plate type. Select the physical format you'll use (e.g. 12-well, SBS 96-well).

  • Temperatures. Add each incubation temperature you're testing.

  • Replicates. Set the number of replicates per condition.

  • Organisms. Add each organism. You can capture additional detail like concentration if relevant.

  • Treatments. Add each treatment and its variants. Mark which variant is the control, then click Add.

  • Media. Add your media type(s). pH and concentration can be captured here too.

  • Samples. Add specific samples if relevant.

Tip: Take your time here. These parameters are what Reshape uses to structure every result downstream.
