Designing Plates from scratch

This guide covers designing plate maps and assigning well properties

Once your experimental parameters are defined, the next step is to create plates and assign your conditions to specific wells.

Creating plates

From the experiment Overview tab, scroll to the bottom and click Create plates. Set how many plates you need: up to 10 Omni- or Multi-well plates or 15 petri dishes (the maximum that fit on a tray).


Design your plate map

The plate designer opens: a visual well grid with your parameter groups in the right-hand panel.

To assign properties to wells:

  • Select wells on the plate map. Click individually or multi-select.

  • Use the right side panel to assign organism, treatment, media, or sample to the selected wells.

  • Assigned wells are colour-coded by their properties.

All options are pre-populated from the parameters you defined in your experiment, no typing from scratch.

A few handy tips for multi-selecting wells:

  • Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) to select multiple wells or plates by clicking on them

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + A to select all wells or plates in the view

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + C to copy the properties of a plate or a selection of wells/plates

  • Press Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) + V to paste those same properties elsewhere

  • You can deselect wells or plates by clicking outside of the tray view or by clicking the deselect button in the bottom toolbar

Click Create plate when done.

Tip: The colour-coded layout serves as a bench guide during physical plate preparation.


Start your job

From the Plates tab inside the experiment, select your plate(s) and click Create job to link them to the Imaging Device and start the run.
