Troubleshooting

How to respond to device error states, auto-pause notifications, and faults

ℹ️
This guide is for the High-throughput Imaging Device with a built-in screen.

If your device does not have a screen, see this guide.

Device states

⚠️ Auto-paused

The device has automatically paused the run to prevent potential damage. Do not open the device or handle plates until you have followed the steps below.

Important:

  • Use appropriate PPE as required by your lab's safety policies before opening the device.

  • If unsure at any step, contact Reshape support before proceeding.

What to do:

  1. Remove all petri magazines from both carousels and set them aside.

  2. Unscrew both carousels and set them aside.

  3. Open the device top by pulling up the handle — the top lifts open like a hood.

  4. Remove all plates from the rotors. See plate recovery guidance below for how to handle these plates.

  5. If needed, remove the rotors for more thorough cleaning. Refer to Cleaning Instructions for safe rotor handling.

  6. Wipe down the inside of the device with a cloth or paper towel. Do not spray liquids directly inside the device.

  7. If rotors were removed, reassemble them before closing.

  8. Close the top by lowering it back down.

  9. Press firmly on the left and right sides of the top where indicated by the sticker labels to ensure it is fully closed.

  10. Reattach the input and output carousels, and re-insert petri magazines into the input carousel on the left.

  11. Press the ⏯️ primary button to restart the run.

ℹ️ Plate recovery guidance

When removing plates from the rotors, match up the dish bottom with the corresponding lid based on the indicators on the rotors.

  • E.g.: match the dish in position A with the lid from position A, match the dish in position B with the lid in position B etc.

  • Before discarding plates, note that results are only recorded once a plate has been placed in the output carousel. Plates removed from the rotors have not yet been recorded, and should be run again if possible.

🌐 Offline

The device is not connected to the network. Results cannot be synced and runs cannot be started while offline.

What to do:

  1. Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the back of the device.

  2. Verify that your network is active and that the cable is connected to a live port.

  3. For network requirements, refer to the Network Requirements article.

  4. If the issue persists, contact Reshape support.

❗️ Error

A mechanical fault has been detected. This may indicate a plate obstructing the internal mechanism.

Do not attempt to resume the run, open, or operate the device.

Contact Reshape support immediately at [email protected].

Notifications

Notifications appear on the screen on top of the current device state. They are separate from the device states above and fall into two categories: errors and warnings.

Errors

Errors require operator action and cannot be dismissed from the screen — they are cleared once the issue is resolved.

Warnings

Warnings are informational notifications that can be dismissed from the screen. Some require user action; others resolve automatically.
